There are soooo many kanji to learn. I like learning languages but Japanese takes so long because of the kanji. I have around 1000 more kanji to study.

Even so, I like kanji but I don't like katakana. Katakana is so difficult. I know katakana, but it is difficult to read katakana. Let me give you a simple example;

スナック - snack

In Japanese, it is 3 syllables;

"ス" - "ナッ" - "ク"

In English, it is 1 syllable;

"snack"

So, when I hear a word like this, it is difficult to guess the English word (if it is a word from English). So, although there are a lot of kanji to learn, it is difficult to read katakana!

learn: 学ぶ

language(s): 言語

to take (a long time): (長い時間)をかける

syllable(s): 音節

word: 単語

although: ただし
