Strawberry cream sandwiches, popular for many years in Japan, have launched in the UK. They became a sensation and have sold out in many stores.

It has caused controversy though. Is it a sandwich or a dessert?

Sandwiches are taxed less than desserts. This is to make healthy food cheaper and unhealthy food more expensive to encourage people to eat less unhealthy food.

Sandwiches are always savoury (salty) in the UK. The Tsubame Traveler thinks strawberry cream sandwiches are not a sandwiches. It is a dessert. If the bread were sliced brioche, with banana, cream and chocolate sauce however…. Mmmm… that would be much better but still a dessert!
