PlayStation turns 30!

The PlayStation was released 30 years ago this month. On the 3rd December 1994 the world was changed forever. I would like to share some of my memories with the first PlayStation. The console we call "the PlayStation one"!

First, I never owned a PlayStation. I was a Nintendo fan and only ever bought Nintendo consoles. But some of my friends had PlayStations so I got to play many of the games with them. The PlayStation was a revelation. It was the second console to have mainly 3D games (the Sega Saturn was released a few months before it in Europe). But it was the first to have cool games.

Some of the biggest and best game franchises started at that time. Gran Turismo, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil (Biohazard in Japan!), Metal Gear Solid, Tekken and Final Fantasy all started or found their feet on the PlayStation.

But let me list some of my favourite games from the original PlayStation! Here are the ones I put the most time into:

Wipeout

Wipeout was a futuristic racing game. It was super fast and with pumping music. Everything about it felt from the future. A powerhouse of a game.

Parappa the Rapper

Parappa the Rapper was one of the first rhythm games and certainly the first I liked. The music was brilliant but also the way the characters make mistakes if you press the wrong buttons made us laugh. Such a fun and funny game. I love it!

Incredible Crisis

This game had music from my favourite band (Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra) but it was the gameplay that made me and my friends go crazy. Family members must get home in time for the grandmother's birthday dinner. What they have to get through is super crazy... Amazing amazing game... I love it!

If you can play these games, I highly recommend it! They are a wonderful window into the past and a big part of video game history. Thanks for reading!
