Review - Pikmin 4

I love this video game!

My son became interested in video games a couple of years ago. We tried some different games together. Yoshi's Island, Animal Crossing and then Pikmin (1 on the GameCube). I bought Pikmin (1+2) a year before that thinking that they could be good games to play with my son.

.... little did I know...

My son loved it. He became obsessed! He loved the games and I loved having something special we can share together.

The first two games are fun and challenging (especially Pikmin 2). We shared the controller. If there were bad guys to get, I took the controller. If there was just collecting and farming Pikmin, my son took the controller. It worked. Pikmin 3 came out on the Switch and there was a dedicated 2-player cooperative mode. It was the best! We could both play at the same time. My son was getting much stronger so it fit his development perfectly.

Then the fourth came out!

Initially, I was very disappointed that the 2-player mode was dropped for Pikmin 4. But we started playing 5 minutes each, taking turns. The game is great fun. The graphics are a step up and the worlds you can explore are so different to the previous games. I love Oatchi (the dog companion). He (or she?) is so powerful but so cute. Though I was nervous when I first saw him, I never feel like Oatchi's appearance is bad for the game.

The game difficulty is much lower than Pikmin 1 and 2 especially (quite similar to Pikmin 3). That means, in my opinion, it is a fun game to play with younger family members.

My son and I played through Pikmin 4 and had so much fun. It is a great game for anyone who likes to look at the ground and imagine exploring as a little tiny person (with a small army of Pikmin). It deserves to sell well and to sit among the best Nintendo games.
